Donovan joins OKW’s studio as an intern, where she will spend her last summer before pursuing her undergraduate degree at Iowa State University’s College of Design (go cyclones!). With design and construction in her family’s blood, Donovan discovered architecture in high school after seeing how it combined her affinity for design with STEM faculties. Thanks to her upbringing and natural curiosity, when she sees the world, she sees how it is put together, for better or worse.
As lifelong Chicago native, she comes to OKW with an appetite for learning and growth in hopes of broadening her skill set and enjoying the city’s rich architectural landscape.
Most inspirational or interesting space in (or out of) Chicago: Mid Century Modern design is a big influence for me. In Leander, Texas, they’re building a very small neighborhood of custom Mid Century homes, and I’m a little bit obsessed with it. From the pool to the colors that they’ve chosen to run with, I’m in love with it all.
Top city on your list of places you want to visit: I would absolutely love to visit Rome. The views sound amazing and don’t even get me started on the food. Iowa State has a study abroad program in Rome that I want to participate in, so hopefully that dream becomes a reality soon!
If you could have one superpower: I think I would like to fly - it seems like it would be a cost effective and quick way to get around.
